Innovative Packaging
Sealed Air’s products are everywhere, although the science and benefits behind our technologies are not always understood by everyone. Many of today’s complex packaging solutions consist of several intricate layers of micro-thin film designed with a detailed analysis and understanding of the product that will go inside.
Each tiny film layer plays and important role in meeting a customer’s packaging needs, such as protecting against shock and vibration hazards encountered in transport and distribution, improving clarity, or reducing the amount of packaging materials used.
Sealed Air’s technologists and engineers are constantly raising the bar on packaging innovation with some of the most advanced, highest performing and specialized materials around. These technologies improve the lives of people, efficiency for industry, and relationship with the environment. Here are few examples how:
We incorporate technology directly into packaging that improves the shelf life and appearance of fresh food. Known as oxygen scavenging, our breakthrough technology absorbs any oxygen left in the package, helping eliminate the need for food additives, while being invisible to consumers because the scavenging component is coextruded as a layer of the package
Our Bubble Wrap® brand cushioning is developed through a method of encapsulating an air retention barrier in the polyethylene during the extrusion process. The process is a trade secret of Sealed Air and prevents air from leaking out under a weight load, which tends to limit the cushioning ability of the packaging. The co-extruded barrier is 100 times more resistant to the passage of air than even a thick single layer of polyethylene
