Industry is faced with a number of trade offs, balancing the need to reduce the environmental impact of packaging with the need to ensure that it performs well and prevents wastage of products in the supply chain. The specific demands placed on the packaging by the end-user may be relatively limited compared with those demanded by production, distribution and storage processes. These demands and trade offs are rarely evident to the final consumer.

Our goal at Sealed Air is to continue to work with customers and consumers in helping them make the most informed environmental decisions as it relates to packaging.

For example, we know that you can’t approach reducing the amount of packaging with the sole objective of reducing the amount of packaging waste. Wherever we sacrifice performance we increase the risk of goods being thrown away because they are damaged or spoiled as they pass through the supply chain – placing even more pressures on our natural resources and global climate.
