Commitments to Environmental Health & Safety
  • Reduce waste - Find practical uses for 96% of our raw materials by the end of 2010
  • Reduce GHG emissions by 12% between 2006 and 2010
  • Reduce energy intensity by 2% between 2006 and 2010
  • Increase the use of alternative energy
  • Maintain a safe working environment
At Sealed Air, our environmental goals are measured in three areas – materials efficiency, energy efficiency and carbon efficiency. In this section, we’ve outlined what we are doing to achieve these goals in our own manufacturing operations. You can learn more about how we are achieving these goals through our products & services here.

Investing in production equipment efficiency, maximizing our use of raw materials and natural resources and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace are the cornerstones of Sealed Air's Environmental Health & Safety initiatives. We have set public goals and regularly report progress against them.

Material Efficiency: As part of our progress toward our "zero to landfill" recycling goal, we continued to make steady progress in improving our manufacturing yields as well as recycling and reusing materials. Where practical, we recycle plastic scrap for energy recovery.
Energy Efficiency: We have conducted audits of several of our key facilities and have invested in projects to reduce energy consumption. We also recover energy from plastics that would otherwise go to landfill. Our active energy reduction program continues to progress with recent projects having significant impact on our ability to reduce our overall energy consumption from our operations.
Carbon Efficiency: We have identified opportunities for reducing the amount of greenhouse gases that we emit in our operations while, at the same time, working to improve productivity of our processes.

Additionally, from ongoing training at all of our local facilities and the management of our global safety program, to having management support and supply-chain led safety councils, we are moving closer to our ultimate goal of zero injuries and zero incidents.

Total Recordable Incident Rate is how we measure safety

Saleable Ratio is defined as the percentage of plastic raw materials that become a saleable product.
